In Buddhism "Mahakala" represents a protective deity that although full of positive energy and quite helpful, looks rather pissed off. Obviously a lot of Buddhist deities seem to to that. Andrew Bell's new 8" Dunny "Mahakala" follows this line: looking quite demonic and not so friendly it yet has all the features a god needs: four arms, three eyes, a fiery crown and a trident. Cool. And as usual appearances are deceptive here, too. Dunny-"Mahakala" protects us from "the poisons that blind – pride, lust, greed, and ignorance" – all obstacles on the path to enlightenment. Too esoteric? Still I ask myself if this isn't just what we need – hyper modern world full of poison and all. Released by kidrobot on August 2, 2012.
