Artists like Simon Schwartz, Ulli Lust, Ulrich Scheel, Felix Pestemer, Marijpol, Birgit Weyhe and many more have given Berlin based avant-verlag its distinctive image. This new generation of comic book authors engulf themselves with political issues as well as personal stories, and thus have developed innovative graphic styles to reveal what modern comic books are: an exciting medium enriched by literary quality. As publishers, people at avant-verlag have made it their mission to offer high class comic books and graphic novels to readers and connoisseurs of modern graphic art since 2001.
Now they have gathered their publishing history's German-speaking artists to celebrate an unusual anniversary: the 11th second of the 11th day of the 11th year. A comprehensive exhibition will reflect on the history of the publishers and at the same time present the great creative potential, narrative scope, and artistic ambitions of a new German comic scene. Starting January 11, 18 artists will be exhibiting comic illustrations, art pieces, installations and other works melding many aspects of narrative and fine art. Numerous readings, discussions, performances and tours will accompany the exhibition which will go on till February 2, 2013.
The artists invite you to join them at the exhibition's opening on January 11, 2013, 7 PM at Berlin's Galllery Neurotitan, Haus Schwarzenberg. There you can follow them around through their individual artistic worlds and have a toast to celebrate 11 years of ambitious comics culture!
